NORDIC CAPACITY SEMINAR NORDKAP

All the Scandinavian countries’ road authorities have rather old capacity manuals based on analytical procedures required to be used in the design procedure. A joint discussion has started on the need to update the formal state road authority requirements on capacity and level-of-service estimates in the design procedure and  also approved methods to estimate traffic, capacity and level-of-service and also on possibilities to co-operate in different ways to improve requirements and methods.

The Nordic countries’ road administrations and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm are arranging a seminar with the objectives to get an Scandinavian and international overview on capacity requirements and methods in the design procedure as follows:

-what requirements are valid for capacity and LOS-calculations in the stepwise design process from feasability to final design for government supported projects (projected year and design hour, level-of-service criterias etc)

-what models are used/approved for traffic demand estimates, modal split, route choice, capacity and LOS-estimates

-a very short description of model concepts

-what is the position on the use/recommendations of micro/macroscopic simulation and analytical methods

-important planned work or work in progress to improve present state recommended procedures

-new, interesting research projects or new findings
